Looking for an info dump if I can get one. I've been gone since after Shards 3 was released; at the time, I had preetttty close to the top-end gear. (Trans/Myth mix, mostly Trans.) After they fixed Survival so you didn't have to grind up from one, I burned out for a bit.
So I'm thinking of coming back, and before I do, I wondered if the fine folks of this forum might answer a few questions...
Summoner: Looks damn near mandatory. A full extra set of defenses is pretty awesome. Worth buying as a builder? Worth buying as a DPS'r?
Jester: Uh. Hmm. Not sure what to think based on the skimming. Anyone want to give me the 100-words-or-less?
And the old, when I left, went:
Squire: THE builder for harpoons and maybe bowlers if nothing else. Little hero DPS value aside from blocking the Kraken.
Apprentice: A worthy builder, though not as good as the squire, but situationally valid. Still struggled to find a place overall, because the damage just wasn't as solid, and 1 in every 4 critters being immune to a tower type was a real !#%!! Not generally used as a hero DPS source.
Monk: Aura is the only reason to have one. But it was all the reason you needed.
Huntress: The trap ****tail was great; the hero DPS wasn't worth it, overall.
Barbarian: The hero DPS platform. Absurd numbers were being published.
EV: Mandatory build supporter because of walls, reflectors, and buffbeams, probably not worth fielding as a hero DPS. Probably.
Countess/Initiate/Adept/Hunter: Meh and more meh from left to right, in that order, countess being least meh and hunter being most meh.
The Hardest Map:
Aquanos NM/Hardcore was viewed as doable by a group with a tank, but otherwise mostly not so much. Technically Sky of Love NM was harder, but no one in their right mind did it.
The Loot-Farm:
Uber Monsterfest, but not the undersea one - the north/south chasm one.
The Pet to Have:
Seahorse for spread or monkey for range. Djinnlets were considered too niche, fairies did too little, companion cubes were considered too ineffectual, genies had largely been replaced by djinnlets or cubes.
The Bug of Note:
Rollovers on transcendent gear at around 350+ish. Number unclear, but got really maddening.
Honorable Bug of Note Mention:
Finishing survivals and getting giraffes with 7 and 8 negative stats.

So that's the world I remember. It would be really svelt-and-keen if people could toss me a run-down on what's changed? I'm "scouting out" things, as it were, for a group of us. :) And hey, maybe this thread will allow people to recognize how far things have come since then!
Thanks in advance!
